Dry Lips vs Glossy Lips: How I Pick Between My Two Laneige Balms
Dry Lips vs Glossy Lips: How I Pick Between My Two Laneige Balms
Laneige has two lip products that show up in basically every "best K-beauty lip care" list: the Lip Sleeping Mask and the Lip Glowy Balm. I own both, and people ask me pretty often which one they should get.
Honestly, the decision comes down to one question: are your lips dry, or do you just want them to look glossy? Once I figured that out, picking between the two got a lot easier.
Lip Sleeping Mask
This is what I reach for when my lips are actually dry, not just a little chapped. The texture is thick, almost like a rich balm, and I put it on at night before bed. I don't hold back either — a generous layer works better than a thin swipe.
By the time I wake up, my lips feel noticeably softer. It's not just sitting on top of dry skin, it actually seems to work while I sleep, which is kind of the whole point.
If it's winter, or the air is just dry where you are, or your lips have been flaking, this is the one to grab. You really don't need much of it per use — the jar lasts a while.
Good for: very dry or flaky lips, nighttime routines, anyone who prefers a thicker balm texture.
Lip Glowy Balm
This one lives in my bag, not on my nightstand. It's lighter, easier to throw on when I'm heading out, and gives lips a glossy, slightly plumped look while still adding moisture. It doesn't feel like a "treatment," more like lip balm and gloss had a baby.
I'll put it on under lipstick, or just alone throughout the day whenever my lips start feeling dry. If you like that shiny, juicy lip look without wearing actual gloss, this does the job.
Good for: daytime wear, reapplying often, a glossy finish, anyone who finds thicker balms too heavy.
Dry lips or glossy lips? That's the real question
Depends what you're solving for. If dryness is the real problem, get the Sleeping Mask. If you just want your lips to look nice and stay a little moisturized through the day, get the Glowy Balm.
If you're asking what I actually do — I use both. Glowy Balm during the day because it's easy and quick to reapply, Sleeping Mask at night as the last step before bed. It's not complicated, and I don't think lip care needs to be.
My routine, if you want the short version:
- Day: Lip Glowy Balm
- Night: Lip Sleeping Mask
If your lips are already in decent shape, honestly the Glowy Balm alone might be enough. I only pull out the Sleeping Mask when things get properly dry.
Bottom line
Sleeping Mask is the "my lips need help" product. Glowy Balm is the "I just want to look put together" product. Different jobs, and that's exactly why I keep both around instead of picking a favorite.
